Weekend Writing Warriors 3/29/15 #8Sunday

Spring just can’t seem to make up its mind as to whether it’s actually here. We woke up to freezing rain today, but it’s supposed to be nearly 70 tomorrow. What the hell, spring?

Today’s excerpt is once again from my women’s fiction novel The Lone Wolf.

After her husband’s infidelities are revealed, Kasey Sanford just wants to rediscover who she is. After an abusive childhood and years as a career soldier, Andrew Adams just wants someone to tell him that he’s doing the right thing with his life. When their paths cross, Kasey and Andrew embark on a tumultuous journey that demonstrates just what they’re willing to do to save the ones they love.

Kasey has spring fever too and is trying to decide what to do in the yard at her new house. She’s at her favorite bookstore looking through home improvement books when Andrew sits down next to her.

He flipped through one of the books lying next to me and asked, “So, Suzie Homemaker’s trying her hand at construction this weekend?”
“Something like that,” I said, staring down at my book, trying not to encourage him.
“I miss doing projects like that; I’ve lived in an apartment so long, I’m losing all my man skills.”
“Man skills?” I couldn’t help but giggle at this.
“Yeah, man skills,” he said and chuckled too, “like mowing the lawn, using power tools. Hell, I don’t even have a grill.” He let out an exaggerated sigh and added, “I’m an embarrassment to the male race.”

  1. Lol, lovely exchange with a lot of fun. Great 8.

  2. Fabulous 8 – losing all – and he means ALL – his man skills.

  3. I really enjoyed the snippet, loved his worrying over his “man skills”. Super excerpt!
