Weekend Writing Warrior 4/3/16 #8Sunday

sleeping feetThis month’s excerpts are from the next stand-alone short story I plan to release (still working on the title). I don’t have a blurb yet either, but it’s about an American guy’s up-and-down relationship with a French girl.

In this week’s scene, it’s Daniel’s first night in France. Mireille told him she’d meet him in the morning to walk him to orientation.

He remembered nodding, shutting the door, taking off a shoe, and then nothing until a loud pounding woke him.

“Mmph,” he muttered, rolling over onto something sharp. He pushed and shoved until the painful object landed with a thud on the floor, then buried his head under the pillow.

The pounding persisted.

“Daniel,” a female voice called between bangs, “Daniel, why are you not awake?”

He sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. The day before came back to him: the flight, the train ride, the girl outside his door.

Mireille.

He leaped from the bed with an energy he hadn’t had a moment before.

  1. I wonder what he pushed out of the bed? Great snippet!

  2. What a way to wake up! Loved the scene…

  3. Nothing brings a man awake faster than the thought of an attractive girl at his door! Good snippet.

  4. Ah, the joys of jet lag (which is what I assume knocked him out so badly).

  5. I’m really curious what sharp object he ended up leaving on his bed. Hopefully nothing important or breakable.
