Weekend Writing Warriors 4/26/15 #8Sunday

This week I’m continuing on from last week’s “Spice Pirates,” a historical-ish short story/novella I’m working on.

Rosamaria’s sick brother Basil just wants to be a pirate, so she enlists the help of her friends Origano, Clovio, and Anisa to take him on a pirate adventure. But then the REAL pirates show up….

In this scene, Rosamaria and Origano have taken Basil to find treasure the “pirates” have hidden on a nearby island.

Origano held up a hand, signaling them to stop, and nodded his head towards what appeared to be lights twinkling in the swampy woods. Clovio and Anisa were supposed to be near the beach disguised as pirates, not wandering around in the dark.

Rosamaria clamped her hand over her brother’s mouth to stop his stream of chatter about how lucky Origano was to have procured a real pirates’ map, then turned towards Origano, her eyes wide.

“We should head back to the beach; we can come back tomorrow in the daylight.”

“What’s the hurry?” asked an unfamiliar voice behind them.

Rosamaria gasped.

“Pirates!” Basil drew his sword, a tin replica Rosamaria had found discarded at the harbor, and advanced towards the towering figure, a wide grin on his face.
